Drummonds has launched a design collaboration with furniture makers Costello and Welch, renowned for their fine art finishes.
Foundry-cast and painstakingly enamelled using the traditional dry frit process, each Drummonds’ cast iron bath takes several weeks to make before being hand finished to order.
Commissioned by Drummonds to create new finishes, Costello & Welch have used their hallmark combination of technical know-how and design sensibility to explore remarkable special effects and textures.
Developing the finishes was a process which Sam Costello says required him to be “part artist, part alchemist”. For example, the Verdigris Aged Bronze is achieved by spraying copper in solution over a coat of fine bronze powder mixed with resin. The chemical reaction which creates the Verdigris effect happens gradually, giving unique results every time.
Creating exciting juxtapositions between classic forms and contemporary finishes, these new effects are available to special commission on all Drummonds’ freestanding baths.
